Celebrating New Beginnings

Today is an almost-milestone-birthday, and I’ve decided it’s finally time to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life.

While I don’t consider it a midlife crisis per se because I personally think I may be too old to be considered a “midlifer”, it is a time for reflection, and new beginnings.  I’m developing new hobbies, taking new classes, and reading about life’s changes.

One of the most exciting areas of exploration is gardening, and I’m taking Gardening Practices and Techniques, a course in the certificate program in Gardening and Horticulture, at UCLA Extension.

For the next 11 weeks, we’ll be working on our plots at The Learning Garden at Venice High School in Venice, CA.  And we’ll be learning about plants, flowers, soil, and so much more from Nancy Harrington, a landscape contractor who’s extraordinarily knowledgeable.

So, I’ve decided that one subject I’ll be blogging about is gardening. Isn’t that a great new beginning?

  1. happy birthday!!

    nice template— :-)

I like it a lot…it’s working well for me…I think it’s the nicest template out there…

I look forward to your transitioning …

    love to you.

  2. You are certainly one of the most supportive friends in the universe. Thanks for the birthday wishes. I spent four hours last night previewing every template there was. I’m still not sure about WordPress, but I thought I’d try it again. In the next few days, I’ll change some of the colors. What I don’t like is having the tags on top and having the type run in the graphic, but when I change the graphic, it will work better.

  3. use categories instead of tags and they’ll be on the bottom…I don’t use tags and the categories work exactly the same way…they are exchangeable…

yeah…I want to change colors and a few things— I’m gonna pay 15 bucks to be able to mess with it even more…but for now I just don’t have the time.

one thing you might want to do is put a sitemeter on here too…wordpress stats are completely misleading…they measure page views and not visitors…

I like having both sets of stats available to me.

I’ve been on both blogger and wordpress so if you want any tips feel free to ask.

    I’m no pro though!

  4. Susan,
    by the way,
you don’t have the template set up so that people can subscribe to comments by email….this is something I really depend on and I think a lot of other people do to!

    be well.

  5. Gianna,
Thanks for letting me know about the tags, and the sitemeter, and the comments by email. It’s all very helpful info! And I’ll email you offline about other questions.

    Susan
